FLAT IRON BUILDING NYC - All prints come framed & ready to hang! About this Print: Print Size: 30 x 15 inches Edition Size: 50 Prints Date Created: October 16th, 2012 Materials: Acrylic on Masonite Covered with Protective Clear Coat Number of Colors: Four Framing Options: Welded Steel or Solid Wood Frame I begin with taking an original photograph for the subject I want to print. I use the computer to separate the different colors in the photograph & add in any patterns. Using the silk screen process, I print the image onto masonite. Each print receives a protective coating which leaves a satin finish. My prints come framed in a hand crafted welded steel frame that we make start to finish here in my studio & we even include the nails & hanging hooks for your convenience. For those who prefer a more traditional look, we also offer a professionally crafted black solid wood frame. Each print comes signed, dated, & numbered by the artist as part of a limited run. History of the Flat Iron Building: This quintessential symbol of New York City, original the Fuller Building, was renamed due to its resemblance of a cast-iron clothes iron. This ground breaking skyscraper was completed in 1902 & was one of the city's tallest buildings. Located at 175 Fifth Avenue, the skyscraper sits on the northern uptown peak of the triangular island block formed by Fifth Avenue, Broadway, & East 22nd Street. Designed by Chicago's Daniel Burnham, the building resembles a vertical Renaissance palazzo with Beaux-arts styling. Due to meticulously pre-cut steel, the frame could go up as fast as one floor a week. Covered by terra-cotta tiling, the building was completed in June 1902 after a single year of construction. The exterior was renovated in 1991 by Hurley & Farinella firm. The Flatiron building was designated a New York City landmark in 1966 & was added to the national Register of Historic Places in 1979.
