Description

Magnificent original painting of the Palais Garnier, Paris, by the renowned artist, Charles Cobelle, dating from the early 1960s. A stunning composition in vibrant pinks, yellows & blues. Acrylic on canvas, & magnificently framed under glass. Measurements: Visible art work: 21.25" by 28.75" Frame: 41" by 33.5" Charles Cobelle (born 1902) was a French (and later American, artist). He studied at the University of Munich & the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris & was tutored by Marc Chagall, whose influence can be seen in the exuberant & free-flowing style of his work. Cobelle was extremely prolific & commercially successful. His favored subjects were French street scenes, race courses, & still lifes, all rendered with a joyful vivacity. He was proficient in numerous mediums, oil, acrylic, & watercolor, & his paintings, particularly his street scenes, fit in well with the modern home. After moving to America in the 1920s & becoming a citizen, his work gained increasing recognition enabling him to become commercially successful, & his work appeared on magazine covers & wall murals. Toward the end of his life, he often signed his paintings Chas Cobelle instead of just Cobelle, & these works are considered to be less collectible. This is a particularly large & lovely example of the artist at the height of his prowess. Acquired by the Wandering Poetess in Connecticut. This is a large, heavy, & delicate item. Delivery within the USA is included in the purchase price. Charles Cobelle's Palais Garnier, A Stunning Original Painting, Acrylic On Canvas, Museum Quality Framing
