Adriaan Lubbers (Dutch 1892-1954) "42nd Street, New York" Lithograph, 1944, Signed, Titled & Editioned "10/50" in pencil. Archival Mat Size: 20 x 24" (50.8 x 61 cm) Image Size: 17 x 14 5/8" (43.3 x 22.2 cm) Sheet Size: 21 3/8 x 12 1/4" (54.7 x 31.5 cm) Note: Slight previous mat stain (SEE IMAGE) Born in Amsterdam. He originally studied mechanical engineer because his parents weren't supportive of his artistic ambitions, but by 1914, after working in South America for a time, Lubbers decided to follow his own path. He worked with artists such as Leo Gestel in The Netherlands, & even lived at a farmhouse with several other artists for a time. in 1916 he moved to New York City, where the architecture & atmosphere of the city inspired him for years to come. His work serves as a timeless documentation of the city in the early 20th century.
