Description
This antique black cotton fabric square features a hand-painted rendition of a 46-star American flag, putting its date at somewhere after Oklahoma became the 46th state in 1890 & when New Mexico entered the union in 1912 as the 47th state. The sturdy fabric is about 20" square; the design portion is 16" square. The painted flag is set off by an intricate geometric border embroidered in red & blue cross-stitch, edged with white chain stitching. The piece was most likely intended to become a pillow cover, or perhaps to be framed for a wall hanging. There is some fraying to the edges but still plenty of intact fabric for either of these projects. There are no holes & no other damage I can see.
