Libyan Desert Glass Tektite Pendant with Moldavite in 14k Gold Filled Wire (#4) 2 amazing tektites in one piece! See video! Please make sure you look at all photos & video & understand the size of the piece BEFORE you order! ASK if you have any questions! 1.5 grams - LDG (This specimen in 100% natural & as found) .18 grams - Moldavite (This specimen in 100% natural & as found) Moldavite is meteoric glass which is the result of a meteor that hit in Germany approximately 14 million years ago. Moldavite is a formation called a "tektite". Many tektites are black & brown & not all that cool to look at. What makes moldavite special (and highly collectible) is the beautiful green hues & amazing spray patterns. Each piece is unique! Similar to moldavite & other tektites, Libyan Desert Glass is a natural glass formation of debated origin. The most accepted theory is that LDG came to be because of a meteorite impact on our planet. All of the heat & pressure of the impact instantly melted the surrounding sand & soil & launched it into the air where it cooled & again fell, as a natural glass specimen. Bits of surrounding sand can often been seen in Libyan Desert Glass, this piece included. Another theory is that LDG is volcanic glass, similar to obsidian. Occasionally quartz-based orb inclusions called Cristobalite can be found in LDG that support a more "earthly origin". Regardless, LDG is often a very light yellow & mostly transparent. They were used to fashion tools, arrowheads, & used in jewelry by the indigenous people who originally discovered the material & we still use them in many of the same ways today! Totally awesome stuff. "Hand faceting" is exactly what it sounds like: faceting done by hand. When working with limited, natural materials, hand faceting is often done to maximize the size of the finished piece. Where as calibrated stones are geometric, there is a LOT more waste in calibration faceting. So hand faceting allows for the largest stones possible at the lowest cost. Win-win. :) That being said, the finished pieces are similar sizes, shapes, & shades, but there are differences. Please note the differences & the inclusions in the stones before purchasing! Note: Many cell phone screens have a color enhancement/saturation feature added by default. The real color of LDG s a pale, transparent yellow color. If it's looking more vibrant, it's most likely your screen. -Moldavite is found in the Czech Republic -Libyan Desert Glass is found in Libya Need a chain to go with this pendant?
