Autumn Afternoon Galisteo Basin - original New Mexico plein air landscape painting in oil by Dawn Chandler I usually visit Galisteo Basin in the early morning, for I love being there for sunrise, & having the trails to myself. Sometimes it takes more effort to get me out the door later in the day. But afternoon is usually when the sky in more interesting, what with afternoon clouds. One afternoon this autumn I looked out my window to see some lovely clouds in the sky. I realized then that I had not been outside all day. in an instant I decided to pack up my tiny plein air kit, throw together a picnic dinner, & head out the the Galisteo Basin to paint that late afternoon light. I'm so glad I did! (For my fellow Modern Elder Academy [MEA] alums, this scene is just a few minutes from Rising Circle Ranch.)
