Fruit ripens with a very heavy fragrance of strawberry. One of this plants more popular uses is as a Sunny Garden Hedge. Ugni molinae is frost tender & in flower from May to July. The seeds then ripen from August to October. Chilean Guava is self fertile & the hermaphrodite flowers are pollinated by Bees. Ugni molinae is an evergreen Shrub growing 6 to 8 feet tall, at a medium rate. Chilean Guava cannot grow in the shade & it prefers dry well drained soil. Ugni molinae can tolerate drought & strong winds but not extremely exposed conditions.
