hand-carved & hand-printed image of woodland scene with trillium flowers clustered beneath a massive tree trunk, by Vermont-based artist Margot Torrey. The print itself measures 14.75" by 9.25", (and it is always nice to leave a bit of space around the ink-edge, so bear that in mind when planning matting or framing). This is one in a series of large portraits of native New England woodland wildflowers that she carved in the early 2000's. I have been making fresh prints of my mother's most beautiful images from her original woodblocks, using the method she taught me. This was originally printed by Margot in black ink (see separate listing for this image in black) but I think it works quite well in green! Each print is hand-rolled on off-white Japanese rice paper, & may have slight variations based on the way the ink interacts with the rice paper, especially with a dark woodland scene such as this one. The irregular texture of the woodblock contrasts nicely with the bright carved lines of the artist. Margot created & exhibited this woodcut artwork from her barn-studio in Putney, VT from the mid-70's until her final "Celebration Sale" in 2017.
