What an intriguing piece of history. This is a photo of a family (?) gathered in a garden setting. At first I thought this was a macabre photo of a group around a coffin with a big bouquet of flowers, but on closer inspection the "coffin" appears to be a reflecting pond with raised edges. Supporting the water feature interpretation are the smiles on some faces & the light colored clothes. Neat old black & white photo, which shows just a trace of sepia tones from its age. Nicely matted in a wood frame & under glass. The label on the back is dated 1939 & this was probably framed by Wanamaker's Department stores. The wood frame measures about 11" tall by 13 1/2" wide by 5/8" deep. The visible area of the photo itself is about 9 3/8" by 6 7/8". The photo & the frame & the glass are all in good condition. Wired & ready to hang. I have not disassembled the back to see if there's any date or place or identification information on the back of the photo or underneath the backing paper.
