Handmade Guatemalan Religious Art, Saint Anthony Wooden Sculpture 5.5"x4"x15" Anthony or Antony of Padua was a Portuguese Catholic priest & friar of the Franciscan Order. He was born & raised by a wealthy family in Lisbon, Portugal, & died in Padua, Italy. Noted by his contemporaries for his powerful preaching, expert knowledge of scripture, & undying love & devotion to the poor & the sick, he was one of the most quickly canonized saints in church history. He was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church by Pius XII on 16 January 1946. He is also the patron saint of lost things. This is a collaboration with Guatemalan artisans cooperative groups, small family businesses, & their own fair trade workshop. They are committed to creating innovative products that support indigenous communities & the environment. This group of artist are offering long term fair wage employment, support education, family nutrition, environmental education & reforestation programs.
