Welcome to The Textile Trunk! please follow us on Instagram @textiletrunk This is a beautiful antique French curtain dating to around 1860 - it would have been used as a bed curtain! The hooks are on the facing side of the fabric, as this curtain hung to face the inside of the bed! I love these hints at the history of antique textiles! This fabric is a lovely light to medium weight cotton, beautifully printed in a tulip pattern on a khaki ground. The tulips & floral print is in shades of soft pinks & gold with a bit of pale pale green & white... just beautiful! There is some gorgeous hand stitching on this piece, too! The linen tape at the top is handstitched & most of the metal hooks used for hanging are still attached. This textile would look wonderful made into window valances, a bed skirt valance, curtains, lampshades, etc. or used for many other projects - it would make lovely pillows, too! This textile was pieced together using two panels of this lovely fabric, so there is a handstitched seam running the length of this piece. On one of these curtains, the selvage is intact on both sides & the bottom is hemmed. The other curtain that is exactly the same only has the selvage intact on one side; the other side is raw/unhemmed. There is some light fading due to sun exposure. On one of these curtains there is a small hole in the middle of the curtain, & a bottom corner has a lovely handstitched mended place; see photos & use the zoom feature to see details.
