Welcome to The Textile Trunk! please follow us on Instagram @textiletrunk This is a beautiful antique French curtain dating to around 1860 - it would have been used as a bed curtain! This textile is beautifully faded - you can see at the top where the colors are more vibrant because a valance (which we have in our shop - see links below!) hung over it & protected it from fading from the sunlight! I love these hints at the history of antique textiles! This fabric is a lovely light to medium weight cotton, beautifully printed in a tulip pattern on a khaki ground. The tulips & floral print is in shades of soft pinks & gold with a bit of pale pale green & white... just beautiful! There is some gorgeous hand stitching on this piece, too! The linen tape at the top is handstitched & most of the metal hooks used for hanging are still attached (only two are missing). This textile would look wonderful made into window valances, a bed skirt valance, curtains, lampshades, etc. or used for many other projects - it would make lovely pillows, too! This textile was pieced together using three panels of this lovely fabric, so there are two seams running the length of this piece. There is some uneven fading in places due to sun exposure. There are some tears & small holes along the bottom of this curtain, as well as a large tear in the middle - the photo doesn't show it well, but this tear is approximately 24 inches long. There are a couple of small & tiny holes in the middle. See photos & use the zoom feature to see details. This textile is not perfect, but it's in wonderful condition for this type of antique textile!
