Signed but Illegible to me ( see photo) Ma Kettle Head, Early 20th Century Cartoon Character USA, Resin Cast 1 3/4" high by 2 1/4" wide by 2" deep ( 4.445cm x 5/.715cm x 5.08cm ) The SYRACUSE ORNAMENTAL COMPANY, also known as SYROCO, was founded in the late 1890's by an Austrian woodworker called Adolph Holstein. in the beginning the company produced ornamental carvings for the embellishment of coffins & furniture as well as the interiors of fashionable homes, including the New York Governor's mansion in Albany. The demand for these works kept increasing & so, a molding technique was developed where Syroco could create perfect replicas of their original carvings. These molds also featured a wood grain within the mold, allowing for a more detailed aesthetic. The recipe of wood flour, waxes, & resins combined with compression molding created an inexpensive, but high quality product.
