Late 19Th C John Wanamaker, Philadelphia Catalogue with Trade Card Winter is Coming!! & what better way to idle away the hours by the fire then by lazily thumbing through the pages of this fabulous window into life in a very different time. It gives a peek into shopping during the Victorian era. It it marked "John Wanamaker Philadelphia" "Fall & Winter 1890-'91" "Catalogue NO. 29" It consists of 186 pages, including the order blank last pages, & contains an index of merchandise from "Albums to Yarns, Zephyrs & Wools". in addition to clothing, one could purchase a new refrigerator, as well as gymnasium goods, spectacles & eyeglasses to name but a few. It seems one could go to John Wanamaker to get just about everything one needed to clothe the body & furnish the home, as well as recreational objects. Measuring 9 by 8 inches & 1/4 inch thick, condition is very good with very minor signs of wear attendant with age> I really don't think it was ever opened. The trade card for "All Wool Suits $10.00 UP" accompanies the catalogue. It was found with it, so I think it makes sense for it to stay with it. It measures 5 by 3 inches & was printed by "Rogers & Florance. 144 S. Fourth St. Phila" I just love the image of the two sheep on a frosty winter night against the backdrop of a black sky.
