Description

Sheet 1 - 1944 Mississippi River Meander Map by Harold Fisk Sheet 1 begins near Cairo, Illinois (top of map) to the western portion of Carlisle County in Kentucky (bottom of map). The full set of Maps encompasses 15 sheets & charts the ancient courses of the Mississippi River Meander Belt from Cape Girardeau, Missouri to the Mississippi Delta of the coastal region of Louisiana. These maps, spanning thousands of years, chart how the course of the Mississippi has shifted & changed dramatically over time, always taking the path of least resistance. Created by cartographer & geologist Harold Fisk for U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, this exhaustive & monumental effort was years in the making. Fisk was contracted by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers as a consultant in June, 1941 and, after conducting a geological investigation of the lower Mississippi River Valley, created a full technical report of the aluvial valley of the Lower Mississippi River. The memory of this mighty river has become the basis for these colorful & wonderfully detailed maps! This Classic Vintage Style Map honors the beauty of this unique art form & evokes the vivid images of simpler times. Each of our prints are custom reproductions printed on 68lb Heavyweight Enhanced Matte Art Paper. These Historic Art Prints are suitable for framing, mounting or direct display on any wall!
