For your consideration I am offering a rare & exquisite figurine featuring a clown Fairy Tale character with a cat on his shoulder designed by Peter Strang for the Meissen Porcelain Factory in Model number 81994 & made in Germany at the end of the 20th century (circa 1998)... With his knack for capturing the entire spectrum of human sentiment in his figures, Peter Strang, head sculptor, consistently raises the artistic bar & continues to enchant with his unique figures..The fairy-tale figurine "Witch" made of Meissen porcelain from 1998 represents a cheerful footnote to the literary tradition & is rendered in a humorous, ironic, yet complex formal language. The use of simple geometric figurines - spheres for the hair, cuboids or prisms for the torso, & rectangles for the hands - establishes the collection's distinctive style, which finds its inspiration in Expressionism... This white porelain Meissen model "WITCH" is made of rectangles, cuboids & prisms was decorated with colorful decorations, which underlines its cheerful appearance - features a hand-painted clown dressed on a square white base painted green offsets trimmed with gold paint with a striped tabby cat sitting on the clown's left shoulder.... Yellow eyes to the cat..So much going on with this figurine & one of my fairytale favorites!! Marked with the mark of the modeller - the raised PS monogram lozenges applied on the side..The base has the blue Meissen mark & in red ink number 14 along with impressed numbers 81994 and.. Stands 10 cm x 2.3 cm x 2.3 cm or 3.5 inches by 1 inches by 1 inches... Light signs of previous ownership & age needs to be taken into consideration - Very nice condition seems like the tip of the witch's nose does have a slight nick to the tip - do not notice it when looking at the figurine but will see in the pictures... A super cute Meissen "CAT" figurine to add to your collection at home!! Peter Strang was born in Dresden in 1936. He lives in Moritzburg, where he has had a studio for many years. From 1950 to 1954 he was trained as a modeler at the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory. From 1955 to 1960 he studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, graduating as a sculptor. He returned to Meissen & focused on the figurative aspects, especially the reproduction of animals. When the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory artists' group was founded in 1960, he was one of them. After 1960, his figurative porcelain models became & remained significant for Meissen. Expressive murals are also part of his work. Even after his professional career in the manufactory, he was still fascinated by porcelain.
