Description
These large corner blocks or plinth blocks were used as baseboard blocks typically at the bottom of door trim, so they are most often found in pairs. Here are 2 matching ones, & they are being AS A PAIR for $47 with FREE shipping. The linear gouge work was typical of the early 1900s, & the carved daisy flourish was also typical of the Arts & Crafts period, so I think these are from around 1905 to 1925. The gouge work was almost certainly carved by hand, as these are from a time way before routing bits. The lines are remarkably even & pleasing to the eye & an indication of craftsmanship. The wood feels fairly light for its size, so these are probably not oak, possibly poplar or ash. You can see that these were painted several times, & it should be possible to get to the bare wood fairly easily. They show dings & chips & nail holes & wear & one of them has an old nail & one of the corners on one of them has a chunk missing. Each one measures about 11 3/4" high by 4" wide by 1 1/8" thick. Each one weighs over 3/4 pound so the pair will be almost 2 pounds. You get this exact pair PAIR for $47, with FREE shipping in the United States. I'll gladly combine shipping with other items whenever possible. For shipment elsewhere, please contact me for a shipping quote.
