Detailed here is an amazing & unique hydrothermal etched quartz crystal from the Serra Do Cabral Mountains in Brazil. These are newly found & directly imported from the mine. Hydrothermal etching occurs when formed & terminated crystals are subjected to various high temperature (and sometimes acidic) solutions. These high heat solutions will melt & etch the exterior of the crystal. Variances in temperature, duration of exposure, ratio of silica, & acidity levels will create a variety of formations & etchings on the crystals surface. Also differences in the thermal resistance of bonds within the crystal lattice can expose geometric forms. This unique & rare process creates a multitude of planes, faces, crevices, & dynamic formations on these crystals. Some crystals will even be etched, & then re-healed/ continue to grow later. Crystals etched in this manner are quite rare as conditions must be just perfect, & exposure time cannot be too long (or the crystal will melt to an unrecognizable form). These crystals grow in very dynamic, changing environments. Exposed to high temperature water solutions as times, & steady growth at others.
