Each valance is made with a generous 1.75" top ruffle & 1.75" rod pocket. The 42"W x 11"L Valance measures 11" below the rod pocket for a total length including the ruffle & rod pocket of approximately 14.5"L. The 42"W x 13"L Valance measures 13" below the rod pocket for a total length including the ruffle & rod pocket of approximately 16.5"L. This valance is recommended for window openings up to 28"W. If you have a wider window...buy additional valances to accomodate your window. I recommend 1.75 to 2 times the width of your window to achieve a nice gathered look.
