Wonderful unique piece of Swedish art glass from Lindshammar in Sweden. Designed by Christer Sjögren in the 1990:s This piece has a lovely variety of colors. Fully signed: Christer Sjögren Unique Lindshammar -98 Width: 12 cm / 4.7" Height: 11.5 cm / 4.5" Really nice condition. Georg Christer Natanael Sjögren, born June 25, 1926 in Stockholm, died October 13, 2008 in Katarina parish, Stockholm, was a Swedish glass artist, sculptor, sculptor, medal artist, illustrator & designer. He was the son of the homeopath Eibel Sjögren & Martha Kilander & from 1953 married the ceramist Eva Birgitta Ruth Lindbeck. After passing a companion exam in the wood sculpting profession in 1947, he studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts 1948-1952 & for Stig Blomberg at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts' sculpture department in Stockholm 1953-1958. After his studies, he continued to work in wood, wrought iron & concrete & was awarded prizes at several sculpture competitions, including by the Royal Mint Cabinet for a proposal for modern medals. His early works include a wrought-iron stair railing with symbolic figures from the natural & animal kingdoms for Vår Gård's conference facility in Saltsjöbaden & a concrete wall for Risbrinksskolan in Linköping & a stained glass window for the Domus department store in Växjö. Together with his wife Eva Sjögren, he had his workshop at Lundagatan in Stockholm. Eventually, he specialized in glass. Here he was "discovered" by the manager of Lindshammar's glassworks, Erik Hovhammar, & got a job at the mill in 1963. Between 1965 & 2003, he was artistic director of the mill. Among other things, he created utility glass, carafes, bottles, candlesticks, ashtrays, vases & architectural glass for the mill's Architecture Glass studio. Here can be mentioned the barrel series Baroque & series Crister where the cutlery with glass handles was included & became a great sales success. He developed the special technique of inflating the glass piece in a cavity of brick. When the Apollo 11 astronauts came home from their first lunar journey, they each received a Christer Sjögren sculpture, donated by Lindshammar & Richard Nixon received the first. Christer Sjögren liked to work with sacred glass, among them a 16 kilo altar cross in crystal from 1974 which is found in several of Sweden's small churches. His art was noticed by a wider audience after a separate exhibition in Stockholm in 1959 where he showed sculptures & concrete reliefs. He then exhibited separately at Konsthantverkarna in Stockholm in 1959, Lilla galleriet in 1962, Form in Malmö in 1965 & in Höganäs in 1966. Together with Berndt Petterson & Birger Forsberg, he exhibited at De Ungas salong in Stockholm in 1959 & he exhibited several times. together with his wife, including Konsthantverkarna in Stockholm. He participated in the exhibition Modern Medal Art at the Royal Mint Cabinet in 1955 & in the international medal exhibition in Paris in 1959 & 1961 as well as in
