Rare Reliquary with Paperolles, or Scrolled Paper dedicated to 3 Saints: St. Justin Martyr-100-165 AD, Feast Day is April 14. Beheaded for refusal to worship Roman gods St. Cernan-Said to be one of the 72 disciples, present at Last Supper. Also known as St. Saturnin St. Dorothea-Patron Saint of Gardeners, usually depicted with fruit or apples. Entirely made by hand. Painstaking work. in this reliquary tiny strips of gold paper were fashioned into double scrolls & fastened around the inside rim of a small box. Saint's names were suspended over relics of the saints such as scraps of clothing, wood, or earth, Sealed with glass. Ex voto. Beautiful, simple paper mâché carton covered with pink & blue paper. in good condition. A reliquary created to honor Catholic, Christian saints. Pink gilded paper has been shaped into tiny scrolls. Still very beautiful & intact. Over 100 years old. Saints' names in French and/or Latin with alternate spellings.
