The Prolific Kiwi is a vigorous vine that grows a smaller, more cold hardy fruit than the common, less aggressive than other kiwi varieties, Unlike most kiwis that require a male & female to produce fruit, Prolific is self-fertile & will independently yield delicious, grape-sized fruit. The plants are extremely durable, hardy, relatively disease & pest-free. Planted in full to part sun, the fragrant, inconspicuous flowers will bloom in early summer followed by tempting, sweet, smooth-skinned fruit in fall. These Kiwi have smooth-skinned fruits so there is no need to peel the skin of the fruits unlike the fuzzy fruit species Actinidia deliciosa. Fruits vary in size & are similar to several varieties of grapes. Plant stems & fruit buds are more cold tolerant than the A. deliciosa species & are mainly grown in colder areas where the cold temperatures can range from 10ºF to -18ºF. Fruit flavors are of course different with every cultivar, similar to all fruits. The bite-sized, 1 ½ inch green kiwis are just right for snacking. They're sweet, high in vitamin C & fuzzless!
