Pregnancy Congratulations Gift, Glass Blueberry & Leaf Pendant Necklace featuring one small realistic handmade glass ripe blueberry bead, & one handmade glass leaf. Both are suspended from an adjustable-length figure 8 chain in your choice of Sterling Silver or 14/20 Gold-filled. The blueberry is a bit less than 1/2 inch (about 12mm) in diameter & the leaf is a little larger. You may wear the necklace at any length you please by fastening the lobster clasp into the link of your choice. The free end of the chain is decorated with a matching green glass leaf. Your necklace will be carefully packed with biodegradable plant fiber inside a 100% recycled paper gift box with a stretch bow. "Your baby is the size of a blueberry." Many pregnancy calendars use familiar berries & fruits to illustrate the size of a baby during gestation. The blueberry is most often used to show 7 weeks of development. Since many pregnancies are confirmed at this stage, babies are often nicknamed "Blueberry" while still in utero. This necklace was created as a keepsake for a woman who is celebrating the confirmation of a pregnancy at 7 weeks. The Nature of Mother Nature Almost nothing in nature is completely round, smooth or even, so I avoid making my glass fruit & leaves too perfectly. I put on little splotches & speckles, make them a tidbit lopsided, & add other small imperfection so that each berry or leaf is unique. This makes them look much more real. Process & Materials: I make each glass blueberry bead & leaf individually using the lampwork process. I melt colored glass rods in the flame of a torch using gravity, surface tension & simple tools to perfect the shape. I round over the points of the flower star of each blueberry to prevent them from chipping & so they cannot snag on clothing. I give the surface its realistic color pattern by sprinkling it with powdered glass which I completely melt into the surface. Because I don't use paint the color will never rub, flake or chip off.
