Love Japanese Style Like We Do A wonderful white kutani lucky maneki neko, in Mori style with beautiful hand painted detail. This figurine technique uses a tool similar to an icing or cream piping bag with a metal nozzle to make raised lines, & dots. The raised lines & dots create shadows, giving the work a 3D effect & a lovely tactile feel to the hands; a comforting feeling when rubbing your cat for good luck. The cat is decorated in big green, white, blue & orange chrysanthemum flowers with gold centers. Smaller colorful plum blossom are interspersed amongst the chrysanthemums. It is said that just as these flowers grow, so too will your relationships & business. Chrysanthemums also have many petals. This is seen as a symbol of living for many years. The cat's body is covered in fine, raised, yellow dots. The colorful bib & gold bell around the cat's neck represent protection & wealth. It's raised left paw beckons customers & important people into your life. White is believed to be the color of purity & white cats attract purity in thought & actions, & happiness. The cat's face is priceless. It is a traditional handicraft that was first produced during the early Edo period (early 17th century). Kutani ware's notable features are vivid colors, bold & elegant designs, & a particular technique of overglaze painting. This technique consists of using pigments to paint a pattern over a glaze & then firing the piece again. Because the paint used for the overglaze can be fired at about 800℃ (about 1472 there is a wide variety of colors that can be used. Kutani ware are all very colorful but the colors used differ depending on the type of pottery. Kokutani & Mokubei use five colors, (red, yellow, green, purple, & Prussian blue). Kokutani has lovely patterns of birds & flowers, landscapes, & geometric motifs. Mokubei features small Chinese scholarly men figures amongst pine trees. Yoshidaya is beautiful with four vivid shades of blue, yellow, purple, & Prussian blue & patterns include plants, flowers & birds. The red used in Iidaya is striking & distinctive with detailed figures like dragons & lion dogs drawn in fine red lines with gold ornaments. Mori is an ornate textured pattern used
