Description

Vintage pair of size 11 1/2 steel skates that would clamp on to the sole of a shoe. These were made by the Samuel Winslow Skate Manufacturing Company of Worcester, Massachusetts, which made both roller & ice skates in the late 19th. I don't know if they work - lakes won't freeze in Minnesota for several more months, plus, I am not that graceful, I would probably hurt myself & be unable to Etsy. These would more interesting as decorative items, maybe for a cabin or lodge, the clover-type design on each one is really eye-catching. The skates work by moving a small lever on the side forward - this expands the part that clamps on to the sole at the front & the back. There is also an adjusting screw underneath the lever. When the lever is pulled back, the skate clamps on to the heel & front sides of the shoe. The skate measures 14 inches long & 4 1/4 inches wide. The blade of the skate is 1/4 inch thick. These skates both have an even coat of surface rust but are clean, & the adjustment screws & levers move freely. They were originally nickel plated & some of that is still faintly visible. There is no major damage that I can see, nothing is bent or broken. Vintage Pair Of Clamp On Ice Skates - Winslow's National Club Samuel Winslow Skate Company, Worcester, Ma
