Made to the exact 1949 state standard, as used between then & the early 1950s along this famous road. Florida used the colored shields from the 1940s until 1993, but they only used the small cutouts until 1956. Route 1 is the eastern seaboard's longest highway, totaling over 1700 miles between Fort Kent, Maine & Key West, Florida. the Florida segment enters the state just north of Jacksonville & proceeds to Daytona, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, & then between the keys across a series of bridges. this last segment was completed in 1938, extending the route from Miami to Key West. An original of these would cost many hundreds of dollars if it ever came to the market. So here is your chance to own an excellent display piece, for just a fraction of the price. This sign is flat printed on steel, with completely accurate layout & fonts. It weighs about 4 pounds, 6 ounces, & is the correct size: 16 1/2 by 16 inches. This is a high quality, heavy steel sign.
