Description

'Lovers in Exile' from Manon Lescaut by Alastair. Chevalier Des Grieux holds his dying lover Monon Lescaut in the swamps of Louisiana in the final act of Puccini's classic opera. This original 6" x 9.5" woodcut print is from the early 1930s. It's printed on heavy matte paper & is in lovely condition. It's tanned just a tiny bit to a light ecru color (think pale vanilla ice cream) printed in black ink. 'Lovers in Exile' would be simply fabulous matted in poppy red & framed in either black or gold. This piece is incredible. Definitely in the same lovely, nefarious realm as Aubrey Beardsley & Harry Clarke. Matted. framed & displayed as a gallery grouping, these fabulous & weird vintage prints are simply spectacular. (Please note that the framed examples in the last two photos are to show how this might look when it's matted & framed. Your print will come to you unmatted & unframed.)
