Description

Fritillaria recurva is a perennial bulb in the Liliaceae family. The common name is Scarlet Fritillary. A native to southwest Oregon into California & Oregon. It grows in the Klamath Mountains, Northern Coast Ranges, Cascade Range, & the Sierra Nevada. It grows to heights of three feet tall. It blooms from February until July. The flowers are very distinguishable from the checker patterns of red on the petals & yellow in the throat, not to mention the recurved petals. It prefers to grow in part shade with dry, rocky soil. Zones 6-9 Germination Mix seeds & moistened soil together in a ziplock bag. Write the name on the bag. Place in the refrigerator for 90 days. Sow seeds into a well-drained, sandy compost & cover seeds to their own depth with sand or grit. Place the seed tray in bright light & keep moist. Seeds may germinate slowly.
