Description

Saint Nicholas was born at Patara in Lycia, a province of Asia Minor, during the third century. His parents, who were devout Christians & extremely wealthy, died in an epidemic while Nicholas was still young. He used his entire inheritance to help the poor, the sick, & children in need. He often went about it in secret, expecting nothing in return. Nicholas was sent to live in a monastery and, at the age of 17, became one of the youngest priests ever. Before long, his charity & generosity became known throughout the land. Nicholas had dedicated his life to serving God & in the early part of the fourth century was made Bishop of Myra. It was said that he was not just able to nurse sick children back to health; he could raise them from the dead. He died in 342 & and is recognized today as the protector & patron of all children - sick or healthy. His feast day is December 6th. Saint Nicholas, Pray for Us.
