Also called "Rosetta beads", the first Chevron beads was made in Venice back in 1495. They are particularly appreciated & sought after by noble families of Black Africa. in the West of Cameroon, these pearls are intended to mark a high rank in the hierarchy & play a protective role". Today these beads are encrusted in the Bamileke culture. Sign of prestige & royalty, they are worn only during important traditional ceremonies such as king enthronizations & funerals. The Blue, white & sometimes red Bamileke pearls on this necklace is NOT plastic. They are locally made of an alloy of Clay & some other products. After being cooked & dried in artisanal ovens, they are hand-painted. Colors: White / Blue / Black Material: Bamileke bead in tinted clay Necklace: approx. 16 inches Long. ( neck to chest) Origin: Bamileke tribe, from the Grasslands , Cameroon. Number of Blue/White beads: 5 Due to their handmade nature, they may have some chips on the beads and/or minor painting defects. Picture 2 shows the back of the necklace.
