We see the past in this movie through a rich patina of stained glass. in fact, the sadness & nostalgia for what once was... rules the day. This movie has it all, manners & brutality in the untamed cattle country of Montana in the 1800s. Have you ever seen a movie with Mickey Rourke & Jeff Bridges? Neither have I... Have you ever seen a railroad steam engine with elk antlers lashed to the cowcatcher like a teddy bear on the grill of a garbage truck? I haven't either... This film puts the "E" for enormous back into EPIC 'cause as Old Hollywood used to say, "This movie has more stars than there are in Heaven" & they weren't joking. Following the domination of the Oscars by the Deer Hunter, Michael Cimino could do no wrong so he took the studio to the brink of collapse with one of the greatest & most extravagant westerns of all time. Now considered a masterpiece, the film sank like a brick outhouse at the box office only to be fully appreciated three generations later when the Criterion Collection helped us put it into context. This Yugoslavian Poster is a cool find. The color is clear & not faded & the middle cross fold shows some wear. Lithographs with light creasing at folds are common for posters of this age as they were mailed to theaters folded (See Photo detail). This poster has been properly stored & is in pretty nice shape.
