Description
This large huipil shirt / poncho from Guatemala features an incredible amount of brightly colored hand-embroidery in a zig-zag pattern, stitched onto hand-loomed red fabric made on a 14 (or so) inch loom. The panels are hand-stitched together. You can tell that the weaving is filled in by hand on the ends where the rows get wide. The hem is uneven, as is common with these older harlequin geometric pattern. PLEASE NOTE there are some condition issues. For whatever reason, the original neck hole was too small for a head to fit through. So it was cut down the center to create a keyhole neckline. The raw edges were finished with black thread & a mother-of-pearl button & loop. There are also lots of loose threads, but I don't see any bald patches. Still very wearable & amazing!
