These are beautiful handmade ogham staves. While I usually make ogham sets on corresponding woods (check-out my other listings this set is made with well seasoned apple wood. The set (unlike my other sets) includes the forfedha - 5 extra staves that were added to the ogham alphabet significantly later than the original 20 letters. Some people work with these in divination, some people don't The Staves were first lightly sanded to remove any loose bark, a section of bark was then removed & then pyrographed (burnt) with the ogham symbol, making them much harder wearing than staves that are just painted. Each stave is about 2.5 inches in length - they do vary slightly in length & diameter since they're all cut by hand - these sets are very slender. The ogham is a celtic alphabet/divination system, based on 20 or 25 native British trees. It is used in much the same way as runes. The set will come with an information sheet to get you started, (please let me know if this is not required & I will save the paper & be aware that this does NOT include information on the forfedha), & a free bag made from recycled or reclaimed fabric - I prefer to send out sets in a cloth bag rather than putting them loose in the envelope or worse in a plastic bag. It is possible that you may want to make your own bag as part of your work with the ogham, & I also offer a "fancy" line of bags in a variety of fabric designs in my etsy shop - so do check those out! The starves were sanded (by hand) & then pyrographed (burnt) with the appropriate ogham symbol, making them much harder wearing than oghams that are just painted.
