Description

Tall Verbena (Verbena Bonariensis) also goes by various other names such as Purpletop Vervain, Stick Verbena, & Brazilian Vervain. It is a tall & slender-stemmed perennial that displays rich purple flowers in tight clusters atop long stems that attract butterflies & hummingbirds. It is also the host plant for the Common Buckeye butterfly. It blooms for weeks from early summer until frost. It is a tender perennial in zones 7-11 & can be grown as an annual in cooler areas. It propagates itself through reseeding. Easy to grow from seeds. You can sow Purpletop seeds directly in the garden after the last frost date. They can also be sown directly into the ground in the fall. They germinate best with cool nights & warm days. Cover the seeds with a thin layer of seeding mix, as they need darkness to germinate. Germination is slow & irregular, so be patient. If you'd like an earlier bloom, you can also start seeds indoors from 6-8 weeks before the last frost date. Again, providing cool nights & warm days will yield the best results. Simply move them outside when frost danger passes. Container planting is also an option. Deadheading can prolong blooming time. Spacing should be about 12″ apart. Verbena Bonariensis is a host plant for the Common Buckeye (Junonia coenia). Tall Verbena | Verbena Bonariensis Packet Of 25 Seeds With Free Shipping
