Description
A nice hand thrown pottery vase made by Tacoma studio potters Betty & Nelson Mears. They studied ceramics under F Carlton Ball & were active artists in the Northwest for many years exhibiting original art, watercolors & ceramics. This bottle form vase is glazed in a black matte glaze with a touch of gray highlights seen in places along with a large splash of purple glaze seen on the side in one area. The lower portion of the vase has a wax resist design that resembles blades of grass which allows the clay body to show through in the design. It measures 5.25" tall by 4" wide. The base is hand incised MEARS in the stoneware clay. It looks very nice overall. One rim chip was professionally restored. A great vase for your Betty Mears collection.
