Bay Colony Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this fantastic 19th century antique New England pine 1 drawer work table / nightstand. The stand has nice proportions with an attractive single board top & a large brass knob on the drawer. The stand also has New England White Pine secondaries with a hand chamfered drawer panel & hand cut dovetail joinery. The stand likely originally had a simple wood pull that was later swapped for a nice large brass one. in the early 19th century most brass products were still imported from England or France because large quantities were easy to ship due to their small size & their metal workers were much more productive with an established market. During the war of 1812, & for many years before trans Atlantic trade was significantly reduced & there was a large scarcity for a vast array of goods. The majority of our textiles, metal goods, & literature were imported from England & when those goods stopped flowing into the country it really jump started the American manufacturing industry. This is a great early 19th century work table with a ton of charm in exceptional condition with our only note being a light wear spot below the drawer on the left side.
