There are three Archangels named in the cannon of scripture & recognized by the Church. There is a fourth Archangel, St. Uriel that was venerated & recognized by the Roman Catholic Church until the 8th century. The Eastern Catholic Church recognizes at least seven Archangels by name & sometimes even an eighth one, St. Jeremiel. No matter how many of these Archangels you recognize, we are never to worship them as worship is reserved only for God in the Most Holy Trinity. He is the angel of Prayer & a patron of the Sacrament of the Holy Orders. His incenser also symbolizes the Divine Sacrifice of the Holy Mass performed only by the ordained.
