Description
Henry Noel Humphreys (1810-1879), was a British illustrator, naturalist, entomologist, & numismatist. This is Print #55 from Humphreys British Butterflies & Moths 1841. Humphreys broke tradition & created these hand colored lithographs to show accurate color butterflies & moths & the plants they naturally inhabit. Humphreys, who studied medieval manuscripts in Italy as a young man, became an accomplished scholar in numerous subjects. in addition to his entomological texts, Humphreys wrote works on ancient Greek & Roman coins, archaeology, & the art of writing & printing. Size: Each print is approximately 8.25 x 10.75 in, & housed in an 11 x 13 mat. Condition: This print is in good condition & accurately represented in our untouched scan, some staining top edge, pencil mark bottom right, & showing signs of removal from book.
