This is a very rare 1800s Old English St George pattern chess set. The chessmen are polished boxwood & polished genuine ebony. The box is a unique efficient design in excellent condition. The board has some discoloration & wear & teat but it has been cleaned up & clear coated with the intention of preserving its current state of condition for the years ahead. The boards core is wood not cardboard. The boards binding has been replaced with red felt that functions quite well. The chessmen appear to be in very good condition but have undergone some restoration. One dark knights face has been sculpted by myself as it was completely missing. One of the dark rooks crenellations were entirely missing & the other dark rook has a few small chips that were patched as well. One light bishop seems to be a replacement. Otherwise in their current state the set appears to be in very good shape with a nice patina.
