The year is 1942 & the German submarine fleet is engaged in the harrowing last days of the "Battle of the Atlantic". The objective: To menace, disrupt & destroy British shipping in stealth groups of submarines called "Wolf Packs". With new allied tactics & the German Enigma code broken, U-boats have begun to take heavy losses with one out of every four sailors narrowly avoiding an eternal residence in "Davy Jones Locker" "Das Boot" is the story of the crew of one such U-Boat, as reported by a German "embedded" Reporter named Lothar G. Buchheim who survived the war & published this vivid tale of unbearable tension & excitement.
