Using the screws will ensure the longevity of your sign, as well as increased shipping safety Please keep in mind your sign may have a different grain of wood than this pictured item, we are working with mother nature here You will need a phillips standard screwdriver to assemble your sign & a measuring tape to make sure your stake is in the center of the sign.
