(nt bx-k4) Note: Judith Bledsoe (1928-2013) was an American painter & printmaker best known for her fanciful & romantic depictions of French chateaus, unicorns, & figures dressed in period costumes. Born in 1928 in California, she was the high spirited daughter of a classical violinist, who grew up in California brimming with ideas. Judith Bledsoe's works share an aesthetic with both Marc Chagall & Henri Rousseau in its use of dream-like imagery & depiction of the natural world in saturated hues. Bledsoe moved to Europe alone at the age of 16, working for the BBC in London before moving to Paris to work at the Printemps Couture fashion house. Judith Bledsoe made her home & studio in Paris, France for the remainder of her life, where she died in 2013.
