I made these earrings in bronze metal clay that I cast from a mold of an antique button I made, it depicts a stylized zinnia flower, with it's infinite petals. When the clay is fired it becomes pure bronze & it is burnished for several hours, then oxidized & buffed to bring out the detail, burnished again & finally hand polished. When all those steps are complete I am ready to finish the earrings by adding 2 of the dreamiest fluorite drops I have ever seen! They are an incredible color of blue-green very much like a Paraiba tourmaline & they coordinate with the antique bronze color like they were made to be together. I used oxidized sterling silver wire to wrap the gemstones to the bronze flowers, added my sterling silver earwires & the earrings are complete. While zinnia has many different meanings, it is usually associated with friendship, & lasting affection, the Victorian meaning of zinnia is remembering a friend not seen for a long time. The earrings measure 34mm (just over 1 1/4") long & are 12mm (just under 1/2") wide.
