Description

The listing is for a Philippines WWII Sweetheart Bracelet. The aluminum bracelet is in a simple tampered cuff design. It features a banner ribbon with the words MANILA on one side; LUZON on the other & in the center is 1945 GWEN. It is decorated with etched flowers on each side, some geometric fill-in shapes & a border for added design. This soldier probably served in both of these battles during WWII in the Philippines & was sending this bracelet home to Gwen; maybe she was a family member or his betrothed. A little bit of history: The Philippines campaign was the American & Filipino campaign to defeat & expel the Imperial Japanese forces occupying the Philippines during World War II. The Battle of Luzon & Manila were major land battles (in those specific cities) that resulted in Japanese defeats during this war campaign. The end of WWII resulted in the Japanese forces in the Philippines surrender on August 15, 1945, after the dropping of the atomic bombs on Nagasaki & Hiroshima, Japan. Sweetheart jewelry was a form used by servicemen to send tokens of affection to their loved ones at home while they were serving their country in these far away places. Weight: 5.8 grams Measurements: 5 7/8 inches inside measurement, with a 1 2/8 inches gap; 1 1/8 inches at widest. The cuff bracelet can be sized bigger or a little smaller by buyer. The bracelet has some patina/wear. It is a great piece of history. ❤All jewelry & other curated items in my shop are Antique, Estate, or Vintage which means they show age & wear consistent with being preloved.❤ - Philippines Wwii Sweetheart Bracelet | 1945 Philippine Campaign Us Soldier Trench Art Cuff
