Bob Gordon Elderberry (Sambucus Canadensis) Organic 1 year old, You will receive a Live Plant that has been trimmed back with moist root stock. They are growing FAST & looking beautiful! They are a very hardy, resilient, high yielding & a very desirable variety, one of the best cultivars available, commercial quality. This variety was discovered in the wild forest of Missouri by Bob Gordon. The fruits of this Elderberry ripen in mid to late July, they are sweeter & larger than other cultivars. Also, interestingly, this elderberry hangs its ripe berry clusters downward facing the Earth, making them harder for birds to prey upon the ripe berries. This cultivar can be mowed to the ground after dormancy & fruits can be harvested in the following year on primocane stems. They like full sun for best flower & berry production. It does best in a well-drained or a slightly moist site, it will grow on drier sites as well. Important to control weeds when establishing. Grows 8-10 ft tall by 8-10 ft wide. Hardiness Zones 4-10.
