Description
This is a charming, vintage (age unknown), hand-painted, solid-wood (not composite), "EGGS FOR SALE" sign. It is a large sign consisting of 4 pieces measuring about 23.5 inches in length when it is all connected together. The large, main sign measures 1 x 10.5 x 24 inches in size & features a hand-painted, brown hen sitting on a pile of eggs with a yellow background & the words "FREE RANGE EGGS". It appears that the sign has been altered because the name "Hockley's" has been painted over, but still visible. Perhaps you can paint your own name in it's place. There are 3 additional signs listing different eggs for sale each measuring 1 x 3.5 x 20 inches in size which all hang separately with hooks from the main sign so they can be changed out. The added signs include CHICKEN EGGS - GOOSE EGGS - DUCK EGGS. So I guess whatever eggs you were selling that day, you would hang that sign. The wood plaques are all edged & backed in green paint & the dimensional lettering is carved deeply into the wood. Great farmhouse sign if you are selling eggs or just to use as a bit of country decor. It is in good, vintage condition with the usual, acceptable bumps & bruises & the afore-mentioned painted over main sign with an off-yellow, non-matching, paint color which wasn't done that carefully.
