Hand-painted Orthodox icon of St Archangel Michael. Size: 9cm x 7cm x 2cm (3.54″ x 2.76″ x 0.79″) Materials: egg tempera, 24kt genuine gold leaf, wood panel, varnish Technique: egg tempera, gilding, polished gold, hand-engraved decorations, miniature The icon is painted using traditional technique - egg tempera on wood. For the background we use 24 karat genuine gold leaf. Upon request we can do polished gold gilding (burnishing) with an agate stone thereby obtaining a mirror-brilliant & very smooth effect. The engravings are made entirely by hand using special iconography tools. The wood board is traditionally covered with a linen cloth & several layers of gesso (levkas). At the end the board is sanded to a smooth finish. After the painting process is completed, several layers of varnish are applied for long lasting protection. We accept commissions & custom requests.
