Description

The peineta or Spanish mantilla comb is part of the native, traditional dress in certain parts of Spain, most notably, that of Andalusia. Generally seen, supporting lace veils, the peineta rises far above the mere decorative hair comb. High Spanish combs spread throughout the United States & Europe in the early 19th century, supporting updo hairstyles containing all sorts of ornamentation, such as feathers & flowers. Use of the high peineta with mantilla generally declined around 1900, with the exception of special occasions, a phenomenon not at all uncommon to traditional folkdress in general. This piece is perfect for pageant or festive wear or for that special occasion when dressing fashionably, Spanish style is preferred. What a stunner for a bride on wedding day ! I have several pictures with ruler which will help you gauge the mammoth size of this comb. Smaller decorative hair combs, seen above, are dwarfed by its size. in very nice condition, this vintage celluloid piece has been used, with little insult. Please note that my smaller combs & of course, ruler, are not part of this listing. More from more beautiful days can be found here ~ www.KaLimaNanea.com Thank you the visit.
