Echoing Napoleonic victories, the painting depicts Boris Nikolaevich Yusupov (1794-1849) - the son of Prince Nikolai Borisovich Yusupov (1751-1831). Upon a rearing horse, the young man is dressed in the costume of the Tatar Khan. The original painting is on display at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow.
