STAMP INFORMATION: Name: Herbs, Oregano Face Value: 29 cents History: On April 7, 2011 the USPS issued a set of stamps honoring depicting flowering herb plants. Used for medicinal purposes as well as food preparation, or even just for their attractiveness, herbs have also inspired countless legends. This stamp features an oregano plant with a pink flower depicted in a beautiful vintage-style illustration. Ancient Greeks wove sprigs of oregano into laurel wreaths to place on the heads of wedding couples in ancient Greece as the herb was thought to banish sadness & represent the joys of the union. Aphrodite, goddess of love, favored oregano, & is said to have invented the herb as a gift to humans. Oregano is a mild spice most famously used as an ingredient in various Italian dishes.
